CHIPPEWA COUNTY — A Detour woman has been charged with manslaughter after an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred last month in Chippewa County.

Tiffany Lin-Dee Dumback, 37, is charged with manslaughter with a motor vehicle and failure to report an accident. According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Dumback was driving a 2011 Dodge Ram at approximately 10:30 p.m. on December 2nd, 2016 that resulted in the death of Benjamin Ray Hilts, 35, also of Detour.

On that date, emergency personnel were called to the scene of a rollover accident on East M-48 near East Townline Road. When they arrived, the pickup truck was rolled over on its top.

Firefighters ultimately had to cut Hilts out of the vehicle. He later died from his injuries.

Police say no 911 calls were ever made from any occupants in the vehicle. Evidence at the scene led deputies to question whether Hiltz was the vehicle’s driver or passenger.

Dumback was arrested and then arraigned in Chippewa County Circuit Court on Wednesday. Police say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the accident.
