UPDATE: Bread company says deformity on bread is foreign material, not worms

MARQUETTE — A U.P. woman says she found a disgusting surprise when she brought home a loaf of bread that appeared to contain worms.

Terra Guizzetti purchased the loaf of bread, put it in her freezer, and took it out the same day to discover what she claims is worms. The bread was purchased at Super One Foods in Marquette but according to a store manager, the bread was not produced in the store, it was produced by Bimbo Bakeries.

Guizetti was completely disgusted but happy she noticed before her kids ate any of the bread. The bread was given back to a Sales Manager of Bimbo Bakeries and Guizetti will also be receiving a Master card for the inconvenience.

Nicole Lasorda of Buchanan Public Relations LLC confirmed with ABC 10 that the deformity was not worms but will still be sent to an independent laboratory to test the source of the foreign material.

According to a press release from Bimbo Bakeries, “Upon initial review of the loaf of Super One bread from Ms. Guizetti, we can confirm that the foreign material is not worms. We have launched an internal investigation and sent the product to an independent laboratory for testing to determine the source of the foreign material. While this appears to be an isolated incident, we take quality control and food safety very seriously. Bimbo Bakeries USA is committed to producing only the highest quality products and continuously strives to ensure a positive consumer experience. We apologize to Ms. Guizetti for this negative experience,” said Nicole Lasorda of Buchanan Public Relations LLC.
