Local state park lowers camping fees for upcoming season

HANCOCK — Camping and lodging fees at the F.J. McLain State Park in Hancock will be temporarily adjusted for the upcoming camping season.

Officials are anticipating potential unavailability of flush toilets and showers during the 2017 camping season after storms in September 2014 and January 2015  caused erosion to the campground’s shoreline that ate away roadways, utilities and large sections of embankment.

Semi-modern rates will be instilled for campsites and mini-cabins. Water, electric and the sanitation station will be available during this time, but interruptions for may occur during construction.

In August 2016, a master plan in response to the eroding infrastructure was presented. This plan will provide a template for future development and infrastructure replacement over the next 60 years. Construction will begin in the spring.
