One injured in early morning fire

MARQUETTE — One person was taken to the hospital after a structure fire Sunday morning in the City of Marquette.

The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 235 West Bluff St. just after 7:00 a.m. When fire crews arrived on scene, they found a mattress burning on the sidewalk.

The mattress was brought outside from a second floor bedroom by a building occupant. That person was taken to the hospital for treatment of burns.

The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. Firefighters extinguished the mattress fire and then searched the second floor of the building, where they found smoke.

The firefighters used positive pressure ventilation to remove the smoke. No fire was found inside the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
