Ambulance service gets new CPR machines

IRON RIVER — An ambulance service covering parts of the western U.P. and northern Wisconsin recently received some new potentially life-saving tools.

Officials from Aspirus Wausau Hospital say they recently purchased three automated CPR devices for use on Aspirus MedEvac ambulances. The devices – called ‘LUCAS Chest Compression Systems’ – are designed to deliver uninterrupted compressions at a constant rate of at least 100 per minute.

Aspirus officials called the new devices ‘game changers,’ as they free up EMT’s and paramedics to focus on other life-saving tasks. Each device cost around $15,000.
