Bill to dedicate portion of US-2 to fallen officer passes State Senate

LANSING — The portion of US-2 running through Norway is one step closer to having a new name.

House Bill 5205 passed through the Michigan Senate on Wednesday. The bill would designate that stretch of US-2 as the “Kenneth J. Moraska Memorial Highway.” Moraska was a Norway Police officer who died by gunfire while responding to a domestic disturbance on May 23rd, 1971.

The bill — introduced by State Representative Ed McBroom (R-Vulcan) and co-sponsored by two other U.P. representatives — is now bound for Governor Snyder’s desk to be signed into law.
