VAST beats goal in raising funds with #BeardsForBeacon

MARQUETTE — One Marquette business met – and ultimately surpassed – their goal in a recent fundraiser for a local cause.

Thirteen members of the VAST Insurance crew spent the month of November growing beards to raise funds for the Beacon House.

The goal of the fundraiser – dubbed ‘Beards for Beacon House’ – was to raise $2,500. In the end, the shave-free group inspired the community to donate an extra $200.

“It’s really a great feeling,” said Scott Reddinger, a Personal Insurance Account Manager at VAST. “This community is always so great at giving back and helping others in need. So to not only hit your goal, but to surpass it by $200, it’s just great, and we can’t thank everybody enough for all of their support.”

The Beacon House is a hospitality house in Marquette that provides lodging and supportive services for patients and family traveling to the area for treatment. That group is working to create a new facility closer to the future site of UP Health System – Marquette, and workers at VAST were hoping to help with that mission by relinquishing their razors last month.

Reddinger said a couple of the men there might even keep their freshly grown facial hair.
