Lady Miners want to avenge regional semis loss

NEGAUNEE — The Lady Miners are the defending Mid–Pen champions after going undefeated last season in conference play. With one week of practice in the books, they are ready to get the season started.

“We came in and conditioned right off the bat to just get some of that stuff jump started a little bit. All in all, things are going pretty well for this early in the season,” head coach Brandon Sager said.

“Honestly, I think it’s awesome. We’ve been working hard every day in practice, putting up shots, playing defense on each other. The chemistry is great. I’m really excited,” said guard Aleda Johnson.

Negaunee’s season ended at the hands of Calumet in the regional championship game, a loss that is still in the minds of the Miners.

“That’s burning really hot in everybody’s mind. Their goal is to get back there and finish where they left off last year. We had that game opportunity slip through, as the game of basketball goes. They’re pretty excited with their sights set on that, not looking past things that are going to be in front of that. But that’s definitely the carrot dangling out there for us,” Sager said.
“I haven’t even watched the full Calumet game yet. It’s a little sour spot, so definitely this year we’re going to come out strong and know that’s our final goal. One game at a time for sure,” said Johnson.

The Miners will open the season next Tuesday at home against Gladstone.
