Local business celebrates joining chamber of commerce

NEGAUNEE– One local business that distributes pop around the U–P is celebrating a landmark today in hopes of becoming a bigger part of the community.

Great Lakes Coca Cola in Negaunee had a ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon to celebrate officially joining the Greater Ishpeming–Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce. Officials from the company say they joined because they wanted to give back to the community and partner up with other chamber members.

“It’s pretty good, like I said it’s my first time ever becoming a member or ever participating in it,” said Great Lakes Coca Cola Distribution Administrator Jolene Kunde, “so it’s been exciting. I’ve got to meet some new people and some new businesses that I didn’t even know existed.”

Great Lakes Coca Cola distributes products around the Upper Peninsula and hope to expand to the rest of the state next year.
The company started in May of 2015 and is based in Illinois. They are also celebrating different themed coke cans and a partnership with the Green Bay Packers.
